CTL-Logic
Based on the CTL-1
Turn your phone sideways for bigger controls.
Tab moves between its knobs, buttons and keys. Space or Enter presses the one with focus; the arrow keys turn a knob. While the FM-1 has focus, the computer keyboard plays it: see Keyboard and screen reader, below.
The screen in words
Playing
- Keys play notes, F3 to G5, and the FM-1's own General MIDI sounds play them. OCT− / OCT+: an octave.
- ENV held: sustain; tap it twice to lock it. LFO held: the mod wheel. REC: all notes off.
- ALGORITHM MIDI channel, PRESETS program change (the sound follows), MASTER volume.
- Velocity and aftertouch from the keys: on the Setup page, turn SELECT for Touch.
Pages
- A button each: HOME Play, SEL Keys, ARP Arp, SEQ Sequencer, EDIT Sound, GLO Setup (tempo).
- KNOB 1–4 set the four values at the bottom of the screen; on Play, four controllers in four banks.
- SELECT and FX step through the banks; hold FX to set their controller numbers.
Scales, arpeggiator, sequencer
- Keys page, KNOB 2: a scale. Then the white keys play its notes and the black keys its chords.
- Arp page, KNOB 1: Off, On, Latch; hold notes or a chord.
- Sequencer: four Euclidean drum tracks. The white keys toggle steps, black keys 1–4 pick a track (or SELECT), 5–8 mute. PLAY starts it.
MIDI
- Pick a MIDI out port to play a synth or your DAW from this page (Chrome and Edge have Web MIDI).
- A MIDI in port arrives as the FM-1's USB: it plays the sounds, lights the keys, and can be the clock (Setup: Ext).
Mouse and touch
- Drag a knob up or down, or scroll over it. Shift-click a button to hold it.
- Keys: click lower for more velocity, drag down for aftertouch. A pen's own pressure works too.
Keyboard and screen reader
- Tab moves through the FM-1's knobs, buttons and keys. Space or Enter presses the one with focus, for as long as you hold it; Shift+Space keeps a button held until you press it again.
- A knob turns with the arrow keys, Page Up / Page Down faster. On the keys, ← → move to the next key.
- While the FM-1 has focus, and Keyboard shortcuts is on, the letters play it like a piano: A is the lowest key, W S E D … up to ', at the velocity set below the FM-1.
- Also: Z / X octave, Q sustain (ENV), 1 ARP, 2 FX, Space PLAY (when no control has focus), Backspace REC, Esc HOME, ↑ ↓ SELECT.
- The screen is read out as it changes, by your own screen reader or by this page's voice (eSpeak NG, GPL-3.0), in CTL-1's own words: the FM-1 screen reader, as on the FM-1 itself. Each button and key also says whether its light is on.
